Maple Class have kicked off poetry week by watching Miss Harrison’s favourite poem – chocolate cake by Michael Rosen.

We giggled until we were blue in the face!

This week, for the first time, year ones have been practising writing numbers as words. It’s a really tricky concept to get their heads around and look how amazing they did! And what beautiful a handwriting too 🙂

Today we have learnt how to use thesauruses to improve our vocabulary. We worked so hard and miss harrison couldn’t believe we were using thesauruses in year 1 and 2!

Today, year two have been reasoning with the more than, less than and equal to signs. They have all worked so hard, but I am particularly impressed with one of my Maple stars for her amazing reasoning! Just look how she convinced me she was right. I’m super super proud of you!

In English today, we predicted what we think will happen in our new text. We worked in groups to act it out using props. We had much fun and made some amazing predictions!

Year 2 have been working so hard with their  handwriting. Look how we write to calming, spiritual music.

Today we investigated which materials would protect our egg from cracking and why. The children learnt all about the properties of materials alongside what makes a fair test, how to record their predictions and log their results. We had so much fun yet again! 😃

We loved music today with Mrs Watkinson. We had so much fun playing all the instruments and recognising their sounds.

Year one had their first reasoning lesson this week. Their 3 star challenge was:

True or false?

19-4-5 is more than 3+6

Prove it.

After working out the answers and discovering that it was true, these boys went to the number blocks to prove it!

I am so proud of their in-depth reasoning and convincing. Well done boys.

Just look at these two very clever mathematicians! They worked together so well to solve this puzzle of counting and ordering in 10s and 2s! I’m so proud of them.
