From reading in the sun last week to playing in the snow this week. Year 1 have been busy at playtime building mini snowman and exploring the snow and ice on the playground.

Year 1 had a blast at Flamingo Land yesterday.  We had a guided tour of the zoo, we took part in a classification activity, we held a variety of animals and watched the tigers and red pandas being fed.

In Learning Mission this week Year 1 have been investigating where food comes from. We researched where different fruit comes from, then we made our own fruit kebabs and enjoyed them in the sun.

This week in PHSE we discussed what we can do with money. Year 1 were given four different amounts: 10p, £1, £10 and £100 and they had to decide what they could buy with this money. We chatted about how to spend money safely and why people might save money instead of spending it.

Year 1 have been busy exploring time. We made our own clocks with numbers and hands and put the months of year and days of week into the correct order.

Year 1 have enjoyed their DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) lesson outside today. We enjoyed reading some of our favourite books in the sunshine!

Year 1 have had lots of fun this afternoon exploring British Science Week. We have been learning about human and animal bones and skeletons. Our focus task was to dissect an owl pellet and identify which bones belonged to which animal the owl had eaten. We also explored human bones by building a jigsaw skeleton and drawing sketches of bones.

In Science this week we have been exploring our 5 senses. This afternoon we put our taste buds to the test and tried to guess different fruits and vegetables whilst being blind folded!

Yesterday Year 1 have been exploring Forest School and we made some muddy hedgehogs. We looked at the different features of a hedgehog and used natural resources to recreate mini ones.

This afternoon Year 1 enjoyed movement games with JD. We practised different movement skills around the hall, then put this into practise by dodging the crabs before the caught our tails!
