Year 1 have been very busy this morning. We have been collecting lots of adjectives to describe the polar bear from our new core text ‘Leaf’!

This afternoon Maple Class went to the dough disco! We have been building up our fine motor skills by making different shapes with playdough and doing lots of activities to build strength in our finger muscles to help us with our handwriting!

Year 1 have had another brilliant time up at Forest School! We have been learning to tie reef knots because our main challenge was to build a waterproof den. We even tested them out by throwing water over them while we were inside. Luckily no one got wet! We then finished our session off with a lovely cup of warm hot chocolate.

Year 1 have had a busy day planting their own cress seeds. We have used recycled juice cartons as pots and we are going to write our own diaries about how they grow.

Year 1 have had another busy morning up at Forest School with Madeleine. We read the story ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson and created our own potions in the mud kitchen, brooms and wands out of willow and used flints to light small fires and toast marshmallows!

This week in PE we have been focusing on different movements. We practised jogging, running, skipping, hopping and lots of other movements to get us across the playground. Next week we will put these skills into a game situation!

For the first 3 weeks of this term we are lucky enough to have Madeleine in to help us with Forest School on a Tuesday morning. This week we read the story of ‘The Wild Things’ and created our own wooden wild things faces, mud wild things faces and to finish the session we cooked our own popcorn around the campfire!

Year 1 have had a brilliant afternoon with Mrs Watkinson, we have been singing songs, learning all about different drums and exploring the magic music box!

For our PSHE session this term we are learning about how to keep our world safe. We decided to read ‘The Last Wolf’ by Mini Grey and talked about how animals become extinct and how we need to keep animal’s habitats safe so they can survive. We then wrote down lots of ideas of how to keep our animals safe in our world.

Our Learning Mission question this week is ‘How do you make a shelter secure?’ So Year 1 have been learning how to tie different types of knots using wool. We can then apply this knowledge to our shelter making at Forest School later in the week!
