This week, year one have learnt how to use question marks to punctuate their sentences. We had a very important visit from Tiddler and we wrote down questions to ask him.

Today Maple Class have learnt all about Remembrance Day. We discussed why we wear poppies, what the purple poppy represents, and said prayers to thank the soldiers who fought to keep us safe.

Today year one have been developing their understanding of subtraction.

We used our knowledge of number bonds to solve subtraction calculations from 10 and 20.

We had a lovely afternoon decorating gingerbread cookies as our class treat!

We had the BEST morning at forest school today. We practised our knot tying skills and then got busy making our waterproof shelters. We worked as a team to make our shelters strong, stable and big enough to fit in our entire team. Mrs Morris then threw buckets of water over our shelter and we all kept dry! We then gathered around the fire circle for toasted marshmallows!

Today we launched our new learning mission: Where in the world? Maple Class’ new core text is Tiddler, by Julia Donaldson. This afternoon, we explored the drawings of illustrator, Axel Scheffler, and painted some of his work with water colours.

What an AMAZING afternoon in maple class.

After a half term of learning about The Great Fire of London, we had some VERY special visitors this afternoon. We spoke to Thirsk Fire Service about their job, how they keep us safe and how fire fighting has changed from 1666 to now. We got to sit inside the fire engine, listen to the siren and even watch them put out a real fire. We were so excited and engrossed in the whole experience!

We have been working so hard on our curated when throwing and catching. We have used lots of different techniques and types of throws.

Today Year 1 have been developing their conceptual understanding of addition. We explored different ways of making 10, quick fire addition, using the hundred square and counting with blocks!

We had the BEST time at Forest School this week. Just look at all the fun we had!
